Presentation
Each capsule contains 250 mg Flucloxacillin Sodium BP.
Dry powder in amber glass bottle for reconstitution into 100ml syrup. After
reconstitution each 5 ml contains 125 mg of Flucloxacillin as Flucloxacillin
sodium BP.
Mode of action
Peptidoglycan is the building block of bacterial cell wall. Flucloxacillin
inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan by blocking Peptidoglycan Synthetase
enzyme. So bacterial cell wall formation is inhibited. Without cell wall
bacteria can not survive.
Uses
It is indicated for the treatment of infections due to Gram-positive organism,
including infections caused by Beta Lactamase- Producing staphylococci. Typical
indications include.
Skin and soft tissue infections
Boils, Abscesses, Carbuncles. Infected skin conditions, e.g. ulcer, eczema, and
acene. Furunculosis, cellulitis, infected wounds, Infected burns protection for
skin grafts. Otitis media and extern, impetigo.
Respiratory tract infections
Pneumonia, Lung abscess, Empyema, Sinusitis, Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis, Quinsy.
Other infections caused by Flucloxacillin-sensitive organisms
Osteomyelitis, Enteritis, Endocarditis, Urinary tract infection. Meningitis,
septicemia. It is also indicated for use as a prophylactic agent during major
surgical procedures where appropriate; for example, cardiothoracic and
orthopedic surgery.
Dosage and Administration
Usual adult dosage (including elderly patients) :
2 tsp q.i.d. The dosage may be doubled where necessary; Oral doses should be
administered ½-1 hour before meals. Osteomyelitisl endocarditis-Upto 8 gm daily,
in divided doses six to eight hourly.
