Indications:
Candesartan
cilexetil is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used along
or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Dosage and
administration:
Initially 4 mg
(2 mg in hepatic and renal impairment) once daily. Adjust according to response;
usual maintenance dose 8 mg once daily; max. 16 mg once daily.
Contraindication:
Candesartan
cilexetil is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any ecmponent
of this product, breast feeding , cholestasis.
Side
effects:
Upper
respiratory tract and influenza like symptoms including rhinitis and pharyngitis;
abdominal pain, back pain, arthralgia, myalgia, nausea, headache, dizziness,
peripheral oedema, rash have also been reported; rarely urticaria, pruritus,
blood disorders have been reported,
Percautions:
Candesartan
should be used with caution in renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral valve
stenosis and in obstructive hypertropic cardiomyopthy. Monitoring of
plasma-potassium concentration is advised, particularly in the elderly and in
patients with renal impairment; lower initial doses may be appropriate in these
patients.
In pregnancy
and lactation:
Candesartan
should be discontinued when pregnancy is detected. It should not be used in
lactating mother.
Drug
Interactions:
No significant
drug interactions have been reported in studies of Candesartan cilexetil given
with othe drugs such as glyburide, nifedipine, digoxin, warfarin,
hydrochlorothiazide and oral contraceptives in healthy volunteers. Because
Candesartan cilexetil is not metabolized by P450 enzyme system, it has no effect
on P 450 enzyme.
