: Hydrocortisone Acetate BP 1%

presentation :
Each gm Genacort Ointment contains Hydrocortisone Acetate BP 10.00 mg is a suitable anhydrous greasy ointment base.

Indications and uses :

Genacort Ointment is indicated in-

  • a. Dermatitis

  • b. Eczema including atopic, infantile, discoid and stasis eczemas.

  • c. Pruritis vulvae

  • d. Anal pruritis

  • e. Combined with antibiotics and antifungals for superimposed secondary infections

  • f. If can also be used in the management of insect bites and otitis externa.

Dosage and administrations :
Apply a thin film to the affected area 2-3 times daily.

Contra-indication :
Genacort Ointment is contra-indicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any one of its components. It should not be used in herpes, scabies, ulcers, tubercular or viral skin disease, perioral dermatitis, chicken pox, prolonged prophylactic use.

Use in pregnancy and lactation :
Since it has been proved that hydrocortisone in oral and injection form causes several disorders in the fetus and new born that is why this drug should be used with caution in case of pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects :
Burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, acneform eruptions, hypopigmentations, skin atrophy.

Warning and precautions :
Avoid abrupt withdrawal after prolonged treatment.

Drug interaction :
Hydrocortisone reduces the action of antidiabetic drugs. it also reduces the action of antihypertensive durgs. Barbiturates, anticonvulsants, rifampicin reduce the effectiveness of hydrocortisone.

Packaging quantities :        
5 gm ointment in aluminium collapsible tube.
