Presentaion

Galfin 50: Each capsule contains Fluconazole INN 50 mg.
Galfin 150: Each capsule contains Fluconazole INN 150 mg.

Indications

Galfin is indicated in the treatment of acute or recurrent Vaginal candidiasis, Mucosal candidiasis (Oropharyngeal candidiasis, Oesophagitis, Candiduria), Systemic candidiasis (including Candidemia, Disseminated candidiasis), Cryptococcal infections (including Meningitis), Tinea pedis, Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris, Pityriasis versicolor, Dermal candidiasis.

Dosage and administration

Vaginalcandidiasis: A single dose of 150 mg.

Mucosal candidiasis: 50 mg daily (100 mg daily in unusually difficult infections) given for 7-14 days in Oropharyngeal candidiasis; for 14-30 days in other Mucosal infections (e.g. Oesophagitis, Candiduria).

Systemic candidiasis and Cryptococcal infections: 400 mg initially then 200 mg daily, increased if necessary to 400 mg daily. Treatment continued according to response.

Tinea pedis, Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris, Pityriasis versicolor, Dermal candidiasis: 50 mg daily for 2-4 weeks (for up to 6 weeks in Tinea pedis).

Child over 1 year: Superficial Candidal infections, 1-2 mg/kg daily; Systemic candidiasis and Cryptococcal infections, 3-6 mg/kg daily (in serious life threatening infections up to 12 mg/kg daily has been given to children aged 5-13 years-max 400 mg daily).

Contraindications

Fluconazole is contraindicated to patients hypersensitive to this drug and in advanced liver disease.

Cautions

Caution should be taken in renal impairment, pregnancy, breast-feeding and hepatic disease. 

Side effects

Fluconazole is generally well tolerated. Some side effects are nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, flatulence, headache, rash. Less frequently hepatic disorders, angioedema, anaplylaxis reported.

Drug Interactions

Rifampicin decreases plasma levels of Fluconazole. Fluconazole increases the effect of warfarin, benzodiazepines and phenytoin. It increases the plasma concentration of sulphonylureas, theophylline.

Pregnacy and lactation

Fluconazole should be used in pregnancy only when the benefit claearly outweighs the risk. Fluconazole should be avoided during lactation.
